JOHOR BARU: The state government has set aside 4,715 homes for its rent-to-own scheme.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian (pic) said 90% of the homes that had been allocated for the scheme, known as Jauhar Prihatin, would be done within Johor Baru.
“We hope to expand this scheme to other districts as well.
“Under the state’s 2019 budget, some RM30mil has been allocated for this initiative,” he said during an event for the balloting of RTO homes in Bandar Tiram in Ulu Tiram.
Each recipient pays a monthly rent of RM260 for a unit, which is priced at RM35,000.
After five years, half of the payments are then used as the 10% downpayment for the people to own the houses.
Osman added that the response has been overwhelming as they received 650 applications for the 190 homes. State government-owned Kumpulan Prasarana Rakyat Johor will manage the RTO programme.
